Zanzibar
The legendary spice island of Zanzibar lies just off the coast of Tanzania, which it officially belongs to, and yet Zanzibar has a totally unique feel. In the narrow streets of the capital Stone Town, ornate doorways to merchants' houses show the Arab influence, as Zanzibar lay on the trading route along the Indian Ocean coast of East Africa. Stunning beaches and warm, clear water make for superb snorkelling, and the remarkable mixture of cultures and laid back feel make Zanzibar a great place to wander around and just soak up the atmosphere.
