I have read what clothing and items to pack, however, I would like to get an idea from someone who has done the trek as to what litre size daypack is recommended. Secondly, is water available at all the teahouses and what would you recommend, a water filter or water purification drops ie Pristine.
Thanks Brewster
PS Any idea how many people have signed up for this trip?

Trip preparation
Hello Thanks so much for getting in touch. I have actually attended the Everest Basecamp tour, so I have some experience in treking the Himalayan region. I would recommend that the size of backpack you opt for would be a 20-25 litre pack with wide, comfortable straps as well as space for a hydration pack like a camelback or a Platypus. You will need to carry water, spare layers, and some snacks. You should also bring hydration salts, blister plasters (although the lour leader will also carry these), and a light torch is also recommended. Water is available from most of the tea house along the way, so don't worry about ever going thirsty. However, if you would like to purify your own water I would not bother with a filter. Your guide will be able to source clear stream water. You should then use Iodine. The instructions should be followed closley and make sure you leave it to kill the germs for long enough. Also remember to purify the rim of the screw top of the bottle. When in doubt about how many drops to add, add double. I experienced no ill effects even after 15 days. Thanks again for getting in touch. Good luck on your trip! ____________________________ Regards, Tristan Smith Travel Consultant •Email: tristan@imtrav.net •Tel: (44) 01473 - 667337 (Direct Sales) •Tel: (44) 01473 - 667333 (Agency Sales) •The Imaginative Traveller Online The Imaginative Travelle
