Imaginative travellers who are planning a Europe tour should consider exploring the old town of Dubrovnik, according to a tourism director.
Meri Matesic of the Croatian National Tourist Office for London commented that history buffs will find plenty of appeal in the city's older districts.
Holidaymakers keen on learning more about Croatia's rich past may wish to take a walk along the city's walls, which encompass a total of 16 towers and bastions, as well as five forts.
Elsewhere in Dubrovnik's old town, it may be worth a stop to take in the 16th-century Sponza Palace and the "impressive" art collection located at the nearby Dominican monastery and museum, she recommended.
"You must see the very interesting Franciscan monastery museum, with the inventory from the old Little brothers' pharmacy, dating to 1317, which is located in the cloister of the monastery," Ms Matesic said.
She also highlighted the range of accommodation options available in the Croatian city, pointing out that everything from camping to five-star luxury hotels is on offer in Dubrovnik.
The city was recently highlighted by the Telegraph as a city "to put a spring in your step", thanks to its vibrant arts and music scene, as well as its many restaurants.
