Imaginative explorers taking tours of Thailand still have the chance to find unspoilt beaches, reports the Guardian.
Laura Barton writes for the publication that islands such as Koh Kood promise a total population of fewer than 2,000 inhabitants - contrasting with the 14 million tourists each year who visit the main developed destinations.
"It's not that I don't like other people - indeed I would go so far as to lay claim to a rich and varied social life," Ms Barton admits.
She adds that, on tours of Thailand and other remote destinations, one of her guiding aims is to make it through the holiday without having to speak to anyone.
In Koh Kood the fishing villages are surrounded by rubber plantations, coconut groves and patches of rainforest.
Meanwhile, the speedboat that carries passengers to the island is the perfect place to put in an hour's dolphin spotting.
Koh Kood is one of four islands described as "off the beaten track" by the Tourism Authority of Thailand in its Beach CHIC promotional campaign.
