East Africa is a stunning area. If you want to immerse yourself in it, this incredible new safari holiday is just for you.

Your adventure begins in the capital city of Rwanda, Kigali. From there you will head north of Rwanda before crossing into the heartlands of Uganda and Kenya, before reaching your final destinations, the Masai Mara and Nairobi.

Your holiday starts with a visit to the Genocide Museum, a sobering but extremely moving experience where you will learn of the recent atrocities in Rwanda and gain respect for the way the people have chosen to move forward.

You then begin your gorilla trek on the slopes of Parc National des Volcans. Coming face to face with endangered mountain gorillas in their own environment is a real privilege and an experience that will leave you speechless. Trekking to visit mountain gorillas is something everyone should do and Rwanda offers the best opportunity to achieve this. We will always pre-buy gorilla permits from the Rwandan authorities to ensure we are able to offer them for each departure. Your gorilla permit is guaranteed once you have paid the trip deposit, gorilla permit fee and provided us will all necessary information. Please note it is possible for the Rwandan government to revoke or change permit conditions at any time (including after purchase) without prior notice. Gecko's Adventures does not accept responsibility for loss of enjoyment or compensation resulting from any changes beyond our control.

‘The Pearl of Africa’

That is how Uganda is often referred to as it offers many treasured highlights and memories. Your visit to Uganda begins in Jinja, located at the point where the Victoria Nile River flows out of Lake Victoria. This is where you have the opportunity to get your adrenalin fix by taking part in some optional adventurous activities. If you’re not an adrenaline junkie you can always use this time to explore some neighbouring villages to get a taste of Ugandan life.

You also have the opportunity of visiting some close relatives at the Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary. They provide some fascinating insights into our own human behaviour and the trip out to the island also incorporates some superb scenery. Another stop on your African safari holiday is the Queen Elizabeth National Park - a true wildlife haven you can explore in-depth on game drives and also on an awesome afternoon boat trip on the Kazinga Channel.

We are proud to support the work of the East Africa Mission Orphanage (EAMO) and, as part of this holiday in Africa you will get to experience the daily life at this very special project. You will share dinner with the children and spend time with them at school.

From here you will journey to two of Kenya's Great Rift Valley lakes - the alkaline Lake Nakuru and the freshwater Lake Naivasha. Lake Nakuru forms the centrepiece of Lake Nakuru National Park, best known for the millions of flamingos that carpet the lake with a soft pink colour. This park is excellent for white rhino sightings and is also home to the usual array of grazing animals.

You will get closer to nature camping on the shores of nearby Lake Naivasha. Here you will become aware of the immense numbers of hippos and variety of bird life that resides here. During this section of your holiday there is time available to take advantage of a range of optional activities for you to enjoy.

But your safari experiences are not over yet as you finally reach the Masai Mara. This is an area of incredible natural beauty and home to a plethora of flora and fauna, making it one of the greatest natural wildlife theatres in the world.
